It’s only fitting that a Navan home surrounded by trees should offer natural beauty from the inside out. The modern farmhouse design suits the rural setting and was carried through to the interiors by designer Paula-Lyn Cleveland who specializes in home renovations with a focus on kitchens and bathrooms. Paula-Lyn’s talents are showcased in two of the home’s bathrooms.

Wood & Water

The homeowner asked for a classic warm design with a nod to mid-century modern in the primary bathroom. To achieve the look, wood and tile meet to become one with a faux-wood tile wall that serves as a stylish backdrop for the wall-hung toilet. Mike Devine served as the general contractor, overseeing the attention to detail that went into creating the high-style, highly functional space.

The custom vanity and linen tower were made from hickory by Andre Toonders, of The Wooden Tailor, who worked with Paula-Lyn to preserve the natural beauty of the wood by selecting a clear coat of stain rather than changing the wood’s authentic appearance. A quartz countertop from Urban Quarry blends with the backsplash for a streamlined look that allows for the wood to steal the show. Brass and black pendant lights along with black oval mirrors added just the right touch to create the mid-century modern feeling that the homeowners were looking for.

Washed in Whimsy

In the kids’ bathroom, Paula-Lyn ramped up the fun factor while keeping with the overall aesthetic of the home. The original space featured a rarely-used clawfoot tub and a toilet that took a prominent position in the middle of the room, begging for a complete redesign of the space.
Now that the walk-in shower is the focal point, the tiles had to be eye-catching. A combination of print and solid hexagon tiles from Euro Tile and Stone were chosen and the impact is stunning. A navy-blue vanity enhanced the fun while the teak benches are a tribute to the natural surroundings, similar to the wood touches in the principal bathroom.
