While you may have heard of Saunders Farm thanks to their spook-tacular Hallowe'en season interactive experience, there's a lot more going on at this fun spot southwest of the city. Located in Munster Hamlet, the farm is also home to some great mazes, a splash pad, hayride tours and much more. Several times each summer, they also host flavourful farm-to-table dinners in their beautiful event space, a renovated heritage barn.
The next dinner is August 13 and it's a family-favourite Pig and Corn roast. The impressive menu includes Slow-Roasted Whole Pig with RhubarBBQ Sauce and Apple Sauce, Grilled Hudson's Corn with Smoked Chipotle Butter and Garden Herb Butter, Maple Cornbread, Psychedelic Coleslaw, Roasted Potato Salad, Heirloom Tomato and Zucchini Salad and Raspberry Eton Mess for dessert. In addition to Peach Lemonade, there will be a cash bar featuring Kichesippi Beers and Local Ontario Wines. The evening will conclude with S'Mores and a sing-along by the bonfire.
Having attended a July farm-to-table dinner at Saunders Farm, I can attest to the skills of their kitchen. In addition to what's sure to be a very tasty meal, the farm setting provides a warm, welcoming environment in which to relax and feel like you've truly escaped the hustle and bustle of city life, if only for an evening.
At just $30 per person or $18 for children aged 3 to 12, the farm-to-table dinner offers great value. Hosts Angela Grant Saunders and Mark Saunders warn that this popular evening is likely to sell out so I encourage you to book your ticket soon if you want to participate in this delicious event.
