As July winds down we are embracing the fact that summer is only half over! In celebration of the many more weeks ahead take every opportunity to enjoy some glorious patio time and make summer feel like it's never going to end.

Where: La Terrasse at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier

What: A large stone terrace, partially covered, adjacent to Ottawa's most iconic hotel, overlooking the historic Rideau Canal, the Parliament Buildings, the War Memorial and the Ottawa River.

Why: Impressive cocktail menu, outstanding food, gracious service, plus a great kids' policy (At all Fairmont hotels, children aged 5 and under eat free from the children's menu while kids aged 6-12 eat for half price when ordering from the regular menu).

Secret tip: La Terrasse is not only the most romantic place to watch a sunset, you'll also have a perfect view of the upcoming Casino du Lac?Leamy's Sound of Light Fireworks presentations, taking place Saturdays and Wednesdays from August 8 through 22.

Where: The Wellington Gastropub

What: A new street-side patio that's a welcome addition to the Wellington West neighbourhood. You can enjoy the restaurant's regular, ever-changing menu outdoors at lunch and in the evenings; there's also a delightful special patio menu offered weekday afternoons and on weekends from 11:30 - 4:30.

Why: Not only does "the Wellie" have a fantastic selection of craft beer, the food is fresh and eclectic, offering something delicious for a wide range of tastes. Plus the people-watching is great.

Secret tip: This patio can be enjoyed regardless of weather, thanks to a cleverly-constructed roof. Also, you can grab pints of their utterly addictive Adriana's Ice Cream to go!

Where: The Mill Street Brewery

What: Attached to a heritage limestone building dating back to the 1840s, a spacious patio overlooking the Ottawa River, just west of downtown and close to the Canadian War Museum. Open every day.

Why: As if brewery tours, free parking, easy access via bike paths, a special MBA (Master of Beer Appreciation) program and onsite retail beer sales weren't enough, the Mill Street also happens to serve up great food along with its award-winning suds. Their shareable platters are a perfect patio option.

Secret tip: Weather permitting, enjoy live music on the Mill Street patio - Wax'd Out Wednesdays feature old-school hip hop and on Thursdays it's the Long Johns party band.
