The National Kitchen and Bathroom Association (NKBA), Ottawa Chapter presents their third annual design competition, promoting individual designers in our community.

The designers enter their finished spaces into a competition where they will be judged by a selected panel, which ranges from designers to educators in the design field. The judging is blind so no designer or company names are revealed until after the judging is final. This year there are eight categories, each providing a first and second place award. There will also be the People's Choice Award, Best Kitchen of Show, Best Bathroom of Show, and the prestigious Doris Lacroix Award.

This is the first year for the Doris Lacroix Award and it will be awarded annually to an individual or company for outstanding achievement and lasting contributions to the NKBA Ottawa Chapter and the Kitchen and Bathroom Industry.  Doris Lacroix was a kitchen design pioneer in the city of Ottawa and she made outstanding contributions to the industry through the Greater Ottawa Home Builders Association. Later on, when the NKBA came to Canada, she was one of the first to see the importance and benefits of being part of the NKBA.

This year the design competition gala will be held at the Brookstreet Hotel in Ottawa on April 5th. This event is sponsored by companies who are heavily involved with kitchen and bathroom designers, specifically with the products they provide such as cabinet materials, counter top materials, appliances, and lighting fixtures. The gala is open to NKBA Ottawa Chapter members and sponsors for this event. If you are a designer, but not yet a member of the NKBA Ottawa Chapter and would like to attend the event, please sign up at www.nkbaottawa.blogspot.ca

The chapter holds monthly educational dinner meetings where representatives from local and national companies present their products. There are also national speakers that join the monthly dinners to educate on topics such as selling techniques, staying ahead of the competition through technology, and how to make social media work for your business.

The NKBA Ottawa Chapter is continuously growing and new members are always welcome!
