Shopping for a causePublished on April 13, 2012

It's not secret that I love to shop. I consider shopping to be a hobby, of sorts.

And although I sometimes suffer from buyer's remorse after a successful shopping excursion, a night of guilt-free shopping made it even easier for me to whip out my credit card all in support of a fabulous cause. Well, that, and a new pair of wedge heels, just in time for summer.

Ottawa's who's who gathered Wednesday night at Michael Kors, Rideau Centre, for a sold-out private shopping event to mingle, sip champagne, and shop all in support of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.

Besides shopping, I loved catching up with friends, old and new, and chatting with Catherine Clark, who was just as excited as I was to support such a worthwhile event. Also, a night out where we leave the parenting duties to our other half? Total bonus!

Tickets to the cocktail party were $50 and part of the efforts of Team BFF-Breast Friends Forever-to raise $10,000 for Bust A Move, a fitness fundraiser organized by the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation taking place this month at the Ottawa Athletic Club.

Team BFF are none other than Ottawa At Home's Mary Taggart and friends Melissa Shabinsky, Stephanie Spruston, Mary Ann MacIntosh, Susan Margles, Maria Bassi, and Catherine Whitla.

The wine was served, the hors d'oeuvres were passed around, and the calories were burned as a room full of stylish ladies tried on the new spring line from Michael Kors.

"I'm here to shop and hang out with my friends-and I couldn't think of a more perfect charity to support!" said attendee Zafira Zygoumis.

From the sailor inspired navy and white striped sequined short-sleeved shirt, to the stunning dresses and summer sandals, everyone left a satisfied customer.

Of course, the stunning leather handbags and statement watches that Michael Kors is known for were also hot items, and an unexpected surprise? Finding out all apparel and shoes were 20% off, thanks to Michael Kors President, Debra Margles, who was also in attendance, making sure everyone was able to find just what they were looking for.

The night was a huge success and ended with one lucky woman winning a $1,000 Michael Kors shopping spree! Shopping, while supporting a cause close to everyone's heart, was the perfect way to spend an evening in Ottawa.
