Recently I was contacted by a member of the Yummy Mummy Club, Candace Derickx, who was working with United Way Ottawa on a Kindness Week project called Extreme Makeover: Kindness Edition.

This campaign would focus on making over the Good Companions Seniors' Center, located in the heart of downtown Ottawa. The scope of the project was to redo their entrance and reception area.

Now in its fourth year, Kindness Week Ottawa is a city-wide initiative that encourages community members to choose to be kind and recognizes those who engage in everyday acts of kindness. Kindness Week is presented by United Way Ottawa.

I quickly jumped on board as I always do, and dragged some of our best local designers down the design trenches with me:

- Lisa Goulet, Lisa Goulet Design

- Kelly James, Jax Decor

- Donna Hargrove, dh Designs

- Nicole Duguay, Solace Interiors

- Maureen Coates, MODECOR

- Mary Anne van Gaal, Otta Decorate!

The plans are progressing well, with the help of local general contractor D.E. Kinkade Konstruction LTD, who is supplying all the labour and the materials for the construction end of the project.

What goes up must come down! The old walls, that is, and new ones have gone up. Trim work is being finished, and the painting has started thanks to the kind donation of paint by Tamarack Developments and the incredible painting talents of Brent Kelly Painting.

This project of kindness was started on Feb. 8 and will be completed on Feb. 19, where the new space will be revealed for all to see.

Stay tuned for the reveal! And thank you to the following companies who have donated their time and talents with their gift of kindness:

- Michelle VandenBosch

- Matt LeBlanc Art

- The Upper Room

- Ottawa International Airport

- Floor Coverings International

- Kravet Fabrics

- Brent Kelly Painting

- D.E. Kinkade Konstruction LTD

- Danielle Lynn Photography

- La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries Ottawa

- Premiere Executive Suites Ottawa

- Rockland Textiles

- Tamarack Developments
