Le Dîner en Blanc was launched in Paris nearly 30 years ago and has since wowed guests in New York and Toronto and now it’s finally coming to Ottawa on Thursday, August 11th. Excitement builds around the fact that diners won’t know where the event actually takes place until they arrive at the secret location in one of the capital’s outdoor spaces.

Over 100,000 foodies and cultural enthusiasts around the world have already embraced this unique concept, best summed up by the New York Times: “There are picnics and there are Picnics”. This très chic picnic is equal parts mystery tour, pop-up feast and je ne sais quoi! What began as a “friends and word-of-mouth only” event has grown into an international epicurean sensation in over 70 cities in more than 25 countries.

“With a rich food and wine culture, we felt our nation’s capital was primed for this amazing event,” says Lauren Hayes-Van Den Weghe, co-host of Le Dîner en Blanc - Ottawa, who has been working in the hospitality industry for over 10 years. “We hope Ottawa’s very first edition is a tremendous success that will pave the way towards establishing a long-standing tradition the city will anticipate and look forward to in future.”

To keep this event a secret and a success there are a few rules involved; guests bring their own tables, chairs, linens, etc. and everything must be white! Diners can chose to bring their own meals, or purchase a gourmet dish with their ticket.

This rain or shine event, sponsored by Metro creates an allure that Ottawa’s epicurean culture is ready to embrace this summer. For more information and to get on the waitlist visit http://ottawa.dinerenblanc.info/about.
