A few months ago I attended a girl's night with a difference. The twist? Everyone was instructed to bring garbage bags stuffed with good quality unwanted items for a clothing swap.

It was an evening to celebrate giving and receiving, and a fun way to reduce waste. The 14 stylish women who gathered at my friend's house spent the evening scavenging through the assorted piles and I can attest that by the end of the night everyone left happy, clutching fabulous new finds.

While I know there's a vast difference between recycling to feel good and recycling to solve the trash problem, I think the clothing swap is a win-win situation. It benefited a women's shelter with the unclaimed items while also reducing consumption. And who doesn't need more inspiration to embrace a healthier lifestyle?

That's why we've put a focus on healthy living in this issue of Ottawa At Home. We've scoured the city for green ideas from eco-friendly renovation solutions to art that takes recycling to the next level.

We also have a kitchen and bathroom special with small space solutions and the hottest décor trends in town. Plus we've got the scoop about Ottawa's insatiable appetite for seafood, delicious recipes and the motivational story of Carole Woodstock, one of the city's leading fitness professionals. All that and much more to help you look good, feel great and find healthy inspiration at home.
