It sits like a crown jewel in the heart of downtown Ottawa, the Fairmont Chateau Laurier hotel.

Over the years, growing up in the nation's capital, for one reason or another, this glorious hotel has been a part of my holiday tradition.

Whether dressing up with my children to take them to brunch, or enjoying a late-night cocktail to look out at the streetscape, splendidly lit with holiday lights, my time at "The Chateau" has always been memorable.

Now I do this for a cause. As a mother of four, the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) is a place that I frequented over the years. Asthmatic children, injured athletes and terminally ill friends have all brought me through the doors of a place that takes the term 'caring' to a heightened level.

I am proud to be a part of supporting our local hospital. The Chateau makes this easy with its annual Trees of Hope Event.

Thirty festive trees, decorated in support of the cause, grace the ballroom. A silent auction offering everything from jewelry to vacations brings in the money, and the night itself stirs warmth and merriment to kick off the season of giving.

Join us and other members of the media and community to share in this evening that is free to the public. On Nov. 26, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., the hotel welcomes anyone with a festive spirit to come support a worthwhile cause.
